Having fun with a catnip toy & kitty roulette.

Bella has come a long way since arriving at CR!FR last November from Richmond with her 4 young kittens. Initially, she was very grumpy, didn't like anyone, even her kittens, & was only interested in food & sleeping. Well, not much has changed, except that she's a lot nicer now!

Bella is quite a character, & is not the cat for everyone. She's got to have things on her terms & her boundaries must be respected. She likes to have "personal private time" to herself but does like the companionship of people, especially when they approach with dinner in hand!

Bella is quite affectionate & sweet. She'll often rear up to head-butt your hand in an enthusiastic greeting. She doesn't like other cats but has grown to tolerate the CR!FR tribe so she may co-exist with other cats ok. Bella wouldn't be a good companion for an other cat but would be glad to hang out with a human or two, between naps.

Bella's age is unknown but she's not very old & is in good shape. Maybe being on her own outdoors raising litters of kittens mellowed her. Or maybe when she gets her own home where she can build a rapport with a friendly person or 2 her true wild & wacky self will emerge.

Don't get the wrong impression, Bella has a fun side: she like to play with toys & likes to watch the more energetic kitties play, with a giddy look in her eye.

I can envision Bella becoming a cherished companion to someone who prefers independent, strong-minded, quiet cats. Her fur has become soft & silky & she's slimmed down since being put on a diet. She's up-to-date on all shots, spayed & ready for a happy new home with a lucky person.

I'm sad to report that Big Mama Bella passed away today. She'd been diagnosed with cancer last year & she long outlived the vet's expectation for her survival. Her breathing became labored & he speculated the cancer has spread to her lungs/chest area.

Bella was a grumpy, unsociable cat when she arrived at CR!FR with her 4 adorable kittens. But over the years she became much friendlier & welcoming of attention. She was never a cuddler or lap cat, but I'll always remember how she'd rear up on her back legs to give my hand a good air head-butt. Her daughter Bruna (Boo) does this a bit, but in a more understated way.

We hope Bella enjoed her time with us. We know her life was much better & longer than if she'd remained homeless.

See you on the other side, Bella. We miss you.
